this is a clash between the people who are volunteering their time to create a enjoyable convention against the people who are profiting from the convention and wants to turn it into a profit business rather than a non-profit business.

Look at the long-ass post made by Sipher27

To pick out a few from the post:
Quote:
5) Refusal to honor contracts with Japanese industry
5a)- In addition to lying about supposed contacts in Japanese industry, Lattanzio had initially refused to sign a contract previously agreed upon that allowed Morning Musume (last year's AX pop idol group) to releaes a DVD of their concert at AX in which 50% of the profits would go towards AX. After Morning Musume directly sent one of their people over, the contract was finally signed, but in the process, according to third party testimony by Chase, Lattanzio's attitudes toward the Morning Musume representative was extremely impolite (claming that he showed up in jeans and t-shirt) and called her a bitch. As a result, that person has refused to work with Lattanzio and subsquently the Anime Expo convention in the near future.
5b)- According to Chase, due to the offense by Lattanzio to Japanese representatives as well as the current conflict between the staff and Lattanzio, No japanses industry is willing to work with Anime Expo as of right now. This is one of the reasons that there have been no industry or musical guests announced for AX 2010 at this time

Quote:
10) Calling staff members up (through Joyce Lim) and asking for their allegiance to Lattanzio, if answer is not satisfactory, staff members are terminated without justifications.
10a)- Shortly after the resignation by Operation Division Managers and assistant managers Rob Wu, Derf Tang, Miko Khun, as well as Programming Division manager Jason Shuai, May Anderson, and Joseph Kitzman. Joyce Lim and members of Lattanzio's staff have been calling various staff members and managers asking them a series of questions determining their allegiance to the Lattanzio's plan. If the answer was not satisfactory, the staff and managers were told "their services would not be required" and subsequently dismissed or fired. I personally have received an e-mail from my former manager Angela warning my current managers as well as the rest of staff about these actions.

11) Lack of traceability from $380,000 in profits from last year's AX.

To address Stan's last post, the accusations that person is making don't seem to be based in fact. I'm not sure who they are, but they're pretty unprofessional. Even if some of it is true, it's neither here nor there (except for the $380,000 part, but I'm really not buying that one). How would they know what's going on? How are they going to know if an entire COUNTRY full of entertainers will not work with Anime Expo? To even imply such a thing is preposterous. Even if he did blunder, being who he is and having the experience that he has, I have no doubt AX will be very successful.

You have to, and as much as it is about 'the fans', you REALLY, REALLY have to look at is as a business. That's what it is, plain and simple. It's about profits and running smoothly and not letting things get in the way. I understand some of the concerns, but frankly, if I were running any large organization I would not stand by and have staffers or heads of departments who are not professional or who are not willing to cooperate with me present for even a second. What people need to realize is that a business is a business and if it's costing money or not making any, then it's gone. There are many, many people who can do their jobs and do them well with bringing new ideas to the table as well. People graduate from college all the time. People are looking for jobs nowadays anyways, so people with higher qualifications should not be hard to find. This move in a separation from BAM! Entertainment seems like a very good one. I have not seen much in the way of Anime Expo being publicized besides advertisements on buses Downtown or billboards behind liquor stores in Burbank. Anime Expo is the largest anime convention in the US. It's going to be that way, too. It'll only get larger. That's the goal. I was not seeing any improvement from 2008 to 2009 and I'm actually quite happy to see these staff members leave. The overall quality of the convention will rise from the new blood coming in with new ideas, instead of older staffers sitting on their laurels.

Bottom line is, a man who came from NBC Universal that can get a theme park, and not a great one mind you, off the ground in Japan should have no problem doing this at all. If the convention board wanted the convention to be more results driven, then they are absolutely making steps in the right direction. Professionalism must be maintained. Of course someone who's allegiances don't lie with the head of their company is going to get fired, and if those people aren't smart enough to fib or at least sugar coat the truth, then what are they doing there? Not everyone has sworn allegiances to their superiors. I mean, really, it's obvious. Anything that is going to keep the machine from running smoothly is going to be fixed and they should know that. This convention will inevitably turn into something much like Comic Con, and I for one am not sad to see it. 125,000 people love comic con, and I'm one of them. I love AX, also and only hope for it to get better. Businesses get more clients and customers by appeasing them and making them want to spend money, which I'm sure they'll be doing. Only thing I can disagree on is the badge price raising in the state of the economy. Not really a smart move, but he is trying to increase profits.

This is all coming from someone who has never worked at AX for a second, and just loves the con. I also have a great interest/background in sales/marketing, some of it with large organizations.

"Do you like Huey Lewis and The News?"
"They're okay."
"Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far much more bitter, cynical sense of humor. "
"Is that a raincoat?"
"Yes it is!!! In '87, Huey released this, Fore, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself. [Raises Axe] HEY PAUL!! [HACK] TRY GETTING A RESERVATION AT DORSIA NOW YOU FUCKING STUPID BASTARD!!!"
